Pieces of my garden

After our nap B worked hard, while i pottered and took images of the creatures in our garden, some of them are easy to photograph, but some little critters wont stay still.
We have more flowers coming out and the garden is starting to look a little fuller. These are just small notes this week as i am posting from my phone, my computer is being petulant the last few days.

A lazy weekend

We had a busy weekend, many people to see and places to be. Thankfully saturday rained all day and i didnt feel too guilty about not getting much work done.

Sunday we were still feeling a bit lazy, so we did some basics, weeding, pottering, watering and generally just enjoying the progress we have made so far. It was decided we needed a bbq lunch to make us feel better :)
Lamb chops, bacon, and seasoned potato slices.... YUM!
(Lunch did only result in snoozing! Hehehe)

A Productive day....

Saturday was a beautiful and productive day.....
the morning began with us working on our outdoor entertaining area (Bonfire pit!) which is taking shape finally. As there are only the two of us it is slow work. The old railway sleepers are extremely heavy and difficult to move.

We are now working on the surrounding garden bed, we are planning on creating a hedge for privacy. We are thinking bottlebrush,  or some other form of callistemon at this stage, as we are planning fire in the centre the outside plant needs to be very hardy.

We also watered and took care of the vegie gardens, fruit trees, bonsai's and the green house. It has been very windy the last few days and although it is cold everything seems to dry out quickly.

Around lunch time I had my fill of dirt, wind, and sun! I went inside to see what I could create in the kitchen.  With the left over roast lamb and veg that I had frozen from last week I made two different casseroles. Both will taste great on their own with mash potato, but will also be delish pie fillings! I also managed to make a soup and a stock with the bones and some extra veg! Not only is it nom-nom-nomy but it makes life easy, after work I or B can just open the freezer and defrost something. Fast food at its best!

After cooking all that lamb (and taste testing!) I didn't feel like lamb for dinner, so we defrosted some steak, minced it up with the hand grinder to make burger patties. I found some turkish bread in the cupboard and we always have bacon in stock :P
VERY filling, very delish burgers with home made relish. :)
Soon all the tomato's we planted will be ready and i can make another batch of tomato and onion relish! we are almost running out, which is not allowed I'm told :P

Bbbbbrrrrr.......

It was freezing last night, had the fire roaring, wearing thermals that my mum gifted me with, blankey, two kitties, bed socks... and i still woke up FREEZING!!!!! Temperature gauge said 2 degrees at 6.30am, so was most likely one or zero degrees at 2am when i got up shivering to find and extra blanket!! ( Thank you mum for making me heaps of crochet blankets!!!)
Now struggling to warm up and get motivated for work, it has been a long week..... bring on the weekend!!

Dinner time :)

We went to the butcher up the road yesterday and bought the biggest leg of lamb ever, 2.5kg on the bone :)

Dinner tonight is Yellow box honey and rosemary roast lamb and vegetable, with homemade aioli (http://www.jamieoliver.com/us/recipes/egg-recipes/aioli-1), as well as homemade creole sour cream dip.(creole spice mix stirred through sour cream and whole egg mayo to taste) Delish!!!

The leftovers will be made into a pie next week.

Today in my world

Today was wonderful, beautiful warm sunny day, bright blue skys. We took advantage of excellent weather to build more garden beds, as well as much needed time to play with the kittens.  Willis has developed his winter coat, complete with a mane that a lion would be proud of, as Manny took refuge on the couch all day, snoozing and purring. The peas are growing quickly, i can barely wait the for weeks before i can harvest them :) Time to start making dinner, perfect day calls for perfect Honey and Rosemary Roast Lamb.
